Summer Institute
To ground our fellows in a community of sharing, we host a Summer Institute for each cohort of fellows focused on teaching, research, and service in an academic career. These are followed by regular sessions during the academic year focused on professional development from building a vision to preparing for an annual review, and tackling the challenges of making change in our schools and practices.
In summer 2021, we virtually hosted our inaugural cohort of 7 Fellows with sessions on teaching and mentoring led by members of Dark Matter University, the Mellon Initiative in Urban Landscape Studies at Dumbarton Oaks, our Deans, and our Advisors.
In summer 2022, we virtually hosted our second cohort comprised of 17 Fellows for seven working sessions, collectively lead by the Mellon Initiative in Democracy and Landscape at Dumbarton Oaks, our Deans, members of the Dark Matter University, and our Advisors. We also hosted our inaugural cohort for our first in-person Summer Institute at Dumbarton Oaks. 6 Fellows from our inaugural cohort participated in residence.
In summer 2023, we virtually hosted our third and largest cohort yet, comprised of 25 Fellows, for seven working sessions, collectively lead by the Mellon Initiative in Democracy and Landscape at Dumbarton Oaks, our Deans, members of the Dark Matter University, and our Advisors. We also hosted our second cohort for an in-person Summer Institute at Dumbarton Oaks and the University of Virginia. 13 Fellows from our second cohort participated in residence.
